The Child’s Singing Voice: Songs From Around the World
Clinician: Claudia Bigler, Artistic Director Cache Children’s Choir
This workshop will focus on the development of the child’s voice and how children’s voices are different from adults. Music-making begins with natural speech that provides a basis for rhythmic development. Nursery rhymes and chants find their place in the play of children and song emerges as a key element of expression and creativity. In this workshop, workshop participants will explore their own voices, apply some basic vocal and rehearsal techniques and discover ways to use speech and song creatively. Participants will also explore the child’s singing voice and share ideas for choosing music that is appropriate for children. The North Park Elementary Honors Choir and the Cache Children’s Choir will be on site to demonstrate specific vocal techniques and repertoire.
